They also serve to create a focal point in your home, office, school, shop or workplace. However, every board’s setting, size, orientation and reason for use is different. When an off-the-shelf solution won’t do it, a custom-made whiteboard or display board is your answer.

Why opt for a custom-sized board?
It’s a simple fact: no two rooms are the same. Lighting, interior decoration, purpose – all differ from room to room. Even those designed to be identical, such as often found in office rows, will differ. That’s okay though, the purpose of a whiteboard or display board will also change depending on the room its in too.
A carefully chosen, standard-sized board can be a great option, but sometimes a custom solution is required. Why try and fit the room to the board when you can fit the board to the room!
At WhiteboardsOnline, our custom-built boards offer a lot of choice, but there are some limitations. For instance, our giant boards can be no bigger than 1200mm on one side. Why that limit? It’s the maximum width at which the component materials are made. In situations that require larger solutions, we can however combine a number of aligned boards.
Our custom pinboards can be ordered in eight different surface materials as standard. If you require a specific fabric or material, we’ll do our best to source it for you.
The beauty of custom framing
Custom sizing isn’t the only way to make your board stand out. We also offer multiple framing options to help make your board unique. We’ve found that every client has different wants and we’re happy to meet them.
While some prefer a thick, defined frame others might opt for an “unframed” look. With a visible width of only 2mm or 4mm when viewed front on, the Edge LX and Esta Trim whiteboards fit this niche nicely.
These framing options can be supplied on commercial-grade and porcelain whiteboards. They’re also available on out pinboards, which come in cork, velour, suzette, trilogy, krommenie or honeycomb fabric. The slimline frames come standard in an anodised silver finish or can be powdercoated white or black.
While we don’t supply truly “frameless” whiteboards (find out why below), unframed pinboards are another matter. On a frameless pinboard, the fabric goes entirely around the edge of the board and is secured to the backing. Highly popular and attractive, they are attached to the wall by screws which are capped with chrome covers.
Why can’t we supply frameless whiteboards?
The simple reason is that it is not safe to ship unframed whiteboards. There are two reasons:
- The manufacturing process of commercial and porcelain whiteboards leaves the material’s edges dangerously sharp. As well as providing a mounting structure, the whiteboard frame acts as a safety cap covering this ragged edge of the board.
- The frame adds rigidity to the board material. Without the frame, metals boards are bendy and porcelain boards fracture. Both kinds are highly vulnerable to damage when in their unframed state in the factory. In instances where unframed whiteboard material is an utterly mandatory requirement, we can specially pack custom cut sheets for transportation. However, you must then arrange your own transport, handling, and installation.
Where an unframed whiteboard “appearance” is desired, we recommend our slimline LX Edge/Esta Trim frames. They only have a 2mm lip for commercial whiteboards and a 4mm lip for porcelain whiteboards. They’re ideal for butt-joining two or more boards together, offering a modern and near seamless look.
How long does it take to make a custom board?
If the required standard board is not in stock or needs to be made, it will be processed within the WhiteboardsOnline warehouse. The lead time for such orders will be quoted according to the quantity and type of board. Lead times for manufacture are currently around 15-20 working days, plus delivery.
Delivery lead times will vary depending on your location. Dispatch with our local driver or third-party courier is usually within 48 hours of the board’s completion.
Can you return a custom made board?
No. Custom manufactured boards are non-returnable. For this reason, you must 100% confirm your measurements and colour choice before you place your order.
To help you double-check your order, we send you an order confirmation before we start the manufacturing process. If you’re unhappy with your board for any reason, please notify us immediately and we will work to resolve the issue.
